District 3 Fall Ball

The Fall Ball is a developmental season which runs from just after Labour Day until approximately October 15th (Mother nature Permitting)  Players are separated into age based divisions from Rookie Ball to Teenage (Juniors and Seniors).  Evaluations usually occur prior to Labour Day.  Teams are formed with kids from multiple associations across Little League Alberta Baseball District 3 (North Calgary)

What are the Little League Age brackets?

Little League has chosen for baseball to align kids ages around a September to August Calendar span to ensure kids particiapting at the Little League World Series are the appropriate age for their respective division.  This differs from other sports in the Calgay area - however as a Little League Chartered Association we are required to follow the age brackets as they are established in the Little League Rule book

Those age brackets can be found here.

For Fall Ball you can register your player in either this years age bracket - or the subsequent year's age bracket. This means that your player has the option of plying in next years age division if htey would be aging up in order to get used to the reules, etc..  Please note you MUST make this decision when you register your player - once teams are created we can not guarantee we will be able to move any kids between divisions.  Please note once registration closes we DO NOT provide refund for any reason.

What are the Divisions?

Rookie Ball LL ages 7-8*

Players continue to develop their skills and learn the rules of baseball. Emphasis is placed upon hitting, base running, fielding/ throwing and teamwork. Both Offensive and Defensive fundamental are stressed.

Minors LL ages 9-10*

Players may be evaluated for the first time in Minors.  Player pitching is introduced, and all players are encouraged to try pitching. Umpires in this division allow a fairly liberal strike zone. The object of the game is to get the ball hit into play as often as possible. Players are encouraged to play all positions throughout the season.

Majors LL ages 11-12*

Players may be evaluated and  drafted based on their ability and Players development . The number of teams vary year to year depending on enrollment. Continuous batting orders are mandatory at this level and players are encouraged to play all positions throughout the season.

Teenage Division - Teenage Teams will be comprised of players aged 13 to 16 years old

Juniors LL Ages 13-14*

In Juniors, players may be evaluated for  teams based on their ability and development. Leading off is introduced and diamond sizes and rules are in line with the rules of baseball.

Seniors LL Ages 15-16*

Senior players may be evaluated for  teams based on their ability and development. Diamond sizes and rules are in line with the rules of baseball. Team atmosphere and dynamics are geared toward older players with refinement of baseball fundamental and introduction of advanced techniques and strategies.

FAQ's about Fall ball

What equipment does my player need?

Each Player must have the following:

  • Baseball Glove
  • CSA Approved Batting Helmet
  • Protective Cup or Jill

Optional Equipment:

  • Baseball Bat
  • Cleats
  • Baseball Pants (while preferred, not required)

Teams will be provided with all the relevant equipment needed for their team (Catcher Gear, Baseballs, etc..)

Can we choose where and when we practice?

We do not allow players to select where and when they will practice.  Practice dates and times are selected based upon Diamond and Coaching availability.  You may email in a single request to your division coordinator for a date you are not available to practice - and we will do our best to accomodate your request but make no promises as it will depend greatly on diamond and coaching availability.  Any Date restriction you may provide will override any friend requests submitted by the small groups code..

We do our best to attempt to keep kids relatively geographically proximate, however based on numbers and where kids register from this may not be possible.

When will my player play?

Fall Ball Games are held on Saturdays and Sundays and the times differ by division.

For the last season each division played the following:
  • Rookie - Saturday and Sunday 10am
  • Minors - Saturday 9am, Sunday 12pm
  • Majors - Saturday 12pm, Sunday 9am
  • Teenage - Saturday 3PM,  Sunday either 12PM or 3PM

While we will do our best to stay with this time schedule, we reserve the right to adjust in order to meet demand and diamond availability.
